Prelude to a Prayer

The innocence of the naked moment
Is all that ever was.
The rest is fiction
The greatest concoction.
A fabricating lie.
At the cosmic steps Evil is subtle
Nothing vile and abhorrent,
Not the Biblical tempter.
But anything that is not so
That not is
The way not to be.

Mamma cloaked the story
With unnecessary vileness
So that now I find Evil tame
Yet more formidable
Compared to what I thought it to be.

Your malice and sting
Is more like that of an
unthinking scorpion,
Whose nature it is to hurt.
Yet that is not Evil,
Nor even those murders and bloodshed…
Just as a tiger is no more vile for tasting blood.

The mythical hero slays
the demons in labyrinthine caves…
funny to see the extent of allegory
that covers the simple truth!
Ah, that’s why I can’t see
The tip of my nose, so very close.
The utter difficulty of the
Simplest word.

Your poem is an expression of the type of complex life we are determined to go through. Due to societal pressure, we are incapable of expressing our true self. But it's my personal experience that living that type of life is not a difficult ask when you give two hoots to your consideration on what people around you will think of yourself.

your words and cadenze are mesmerising. One can almost hear the 'scudding drifts' in the pic above. Thanks.
